FOGBOW & SUPERNUMERARY ARC

Fogbow - Jan 28th 09

Facing N over country fields at a fogbow generated by a sodium street light behind me on the night of January 27/28th 2009 from Maghera, N. Ireland which I captured in b&w. This image and the images which follow were all taken between 03.00 and 04.00 UT on a night of dense fog and complete silence. The bow was 40 degrees high (80 full Moon diameters) from ground to the inside of the bow. The base of each bow was very intense and seemed close enough to touch in the field. A dark arc runs through the inside of the bow with a fainter supernumerary arc. On the field is the shadow of a wire fence and hedgerow with a Heligenschein around the shadow of my head and that of the tripod. Images were taken using a 58mm wide angle conversion lens at ISO400 and an exposure between 25 - 30 sec's.
