CREWE ROAD HALO

HOME

  Crewe Road Halo

This image was taken during the early afternoon of February 6th 2008 showing the eastern section of a 22 degree sun halo captured from Crewe Road, Maghera. I composed the shot deliberately to catch the passing van. The brightest section of the halo is actually a bright vertical sundog which blends into the fainter halo. This was a fairly bright halo display with obvious colours seen with the naked eye. You can see the fine wispy cirrus clouds crossing the Sun and surrounding sky which contained the ice crystals needed to produce this atmospheric display. Facing SE here at 13.42 UT.
