FAINT MOONBOW

Faint Moonbow

Faint Moonbow from the Maghera countryside on November 8th 2008 before midnight. This bow formed an a very unsettled night with squally showers of rain and sleet moving in from the W. The bow was produced by a waxing gibbous Moon so it was fairly faint. With the naked eye it was easy to see with all its colours on show. The image actually faithfully shows what the view was like with the naked eye fairly well. This is looking near N at the left section of the complete bow. The Moon was fairly high so the bow was low at 20 degrees high. The stars on the image belong to Ursa Major and Lynx. This bow was an extremely difficult catch. I had to spend hours in very wet and cold weather to catch it. ISO 400, 30 sec exposure using a 28mm lens at F/2.8.
