Crescent Moon & Mercury Conjunction Image & Video - May 6th 08

The weather has been very kind to me here in N. Ireland. For the fourth night (May 6/7th 2008) in a row I was greeted by a clear, if somewhat hazy sky. At 21.30 BST I packed my gear and walked several miles out the road to my favourite location in the country which provided me with a great panoramic view. The thin crescent Moon appeared in the bright twilight first then Mercury followed suit some 2 degrees to the SE of the Moon which sported faint earthshine. Both objects where a treat with the naked eye as they adorned the western twilight above the Sperrin Mountains outside Maghera. This image was taken at 22.07 BST using the 300mm lens at ISO200, F/2.9 with 1.3 second exposure.

I took this video for a bit of fun. This is just a short clip of the above scene. You can just about make out Mercury. The original high resolution AVI is so much better however the YouTube compression went to work on the quality
