I would like to present to you a gallery showing the very best Noctilucent cloud displays witnessed over Maghera, N. Ireland during the 2005 and 2006 seasons. 2006 produced a large number of simply stunning displays with complex structure and a multitude of rich colours. This was the season which got me hooked on NLCs forever. The original gallery on Nightskyhunter is now replaced with higher resolution images, many of which have never been seen before on the internet. Here are my favourite displays centred around the solstice period. This was a hectic period because I was blessed with many clear nights so I spent all night, every night, for more than three months documenting these displays which cost me alot of sleep!. I think my time was well spent and the images below are the product of my nocturnal labour. All images are ©Martin McKenna.

2005 was the year I began NLC photography however my camera was not the most suitable. I used a 5MP Fujifilm 'point & shoot' camera. The quality of these images are very low, however I decided to put them on here due to the fond memories from those active times. All of these images were taken using 'night mode' which is a 2 second exposure with ISO between 100 and 400. Some of these are also hand held!.
