BALLYRONAN STORMY CLOUDSCAPE - PART 2

Sunset

October 25th 2009. This was the day after the first big Atlantic storm of Autumn passed over N. Ireland during the early morning hours producing heavy rain and gales. During the evening I went for a walk around the NW shore of Lough Neagh at Ballyronan Marina.. It was overcast and raining however the rain briefly stopped allowing some filtered sunlight through to catch these heavy clouds in the SE. The clouds had subtle blue, purple, and pink colours with their reflection visible on the Lough itself. Strange dark shadows where cast across the water by the Sun which was behind me and low in the sky very close to setting. The dark shadows are probably the trees which lined the shore and walkway behind me. The effect looks very similar to an aurora display. The low level clouds in the distance had a very dark precipitation curtain falling over the Lough making for a very storm-like scene. The sky turned overcast and dark within min's and the rain returned. I was lucky to have captured the moody view at the correct moment. 28mm wide angle lens, hand held, portrait style.
